Karl has just returnd from sunny hot New Zealand, not only to have Christmas with his family, but also to experience the real shock of picking Eiswein Grapes at very cold temperatures…
The Eiswein Lese started about two days ago… at around 6 am Bischoffingen was suddenly awake at the sound of tractors racing to the vineyards. Two hours later they rushed back to the local cooperative with the frozen grapes. This year Germany is lucky to have these cold temperatures so early. In 2006 the winter was too mild and the temperatures didn’t reach the -7°C needed to pick the Eiswein.
