Hello to all Wine Bloggers Worldwide from sunny harvest 2008 in New Zealand.

When surfing the Internet, it is quite amazing how many Wine Blogs are out there. I have gathered some together, and I’m still finding more every day. Now as most of the Wine Bloggers live in the northern Hemisphere waiting for warm weather…

… I just thought, that I’d say hello and invite you all to have a look at what’s going on here in the Wairarapa at Johner Estate…

We are in the middle of harvest, and it has been a wonderful dry season with plenty of sunshine and most important of all “Cold Nights”… The essential thing for cool climate varieties like Pinot Noir or fruity Sauvignon Blanc.

So if you would like to leave a comment or have any questions, I’ll be more than happy to reply!!!

Master Sommelier Shayn Bjornholm has reviewed our 2004 Pinot Noir

We have received a note from our U.S. Importer Ingenium Wines

We have received the following review from Master Sommelier Shayn Bjornholm:

2004 Karl. H. Johner “Enselberg” Pinot Noir, Baden, Germany
From the screw cap enclosure to the use of Pinot Noir on the label (instead of Spatburgunder) to the 14% alcohol by volume, Johner is quite obviously not your grandmother’s German producer. Both the style and marketing of the wine display a modern approach to sate the seemingly unquenchable thirst for this grape in the United States – and what timing. Bravo! The wine is delicious, flat out. It reminds of something between a riper California Central Coast meets a 1er Cru Chassagne Montrachet rouge – rich, fresh, bursting red cherry/raspberry and purple flowers with tannins that are soft and round, with a hint of tea leaf earth and a restrained touch of exotic baking spice due to oak. For the money, a fine, balanced, perfect to drink now bottle of Pinot Noir.

Now as I’m in New Zealand at the moment I only have our German Label of the Wine here…

Sauvignon Blanc 2008… The big lot.

Yesterday evening at the local pub, we tasted some of our colleagues Sauvignon Blancs. Absolutely fascinating, what kind of styles our neighbours make. Some very similar to our 2007 elderberry style. But then also some with more tropical aromas. In one case, I had never scented this pure intense Grapefruit flavor before. So with all these impressions in mind, it was time to rack off the main lot of Sauvignon Blanc.

The juice was cold settled in 1000l tanks, which were stored in a cooling container.

Airport Sydney

Au dem Weg nach Neuseeland gibt es am Flughafen von Sydney einige Duy free Geschäfte.

Und in diese Zonen findet man unter anderem ein paar Weinabteilungen.

Beim durchsschauen sind mir ein paar sehr interresante Dinge aufgefallen.

Da nun die meisten Australischen und Neuseeländischen Weine unter Schraubverschluß gefüllt werden, sind nur noch ein paar ältere Jahrgänge mit Kork noch ausgestellt. Continue reading “Airport Sydney”

Webcam at Johner Estate

Finally I ave installed a webcam, uploading pictures every 15 minutes. It was quite a challenge for me to learn about all the connectivity to the internet, accessing it from outside of the local lan and setting up the whole system.
