Lagererweiterung: Zwischenboden…
Zur Zeit wird in unserer Lagerhalle ein Zwischenboden eingebaut. Dadurch können wir das Gebäude besser in Temperaturzonen unterteilen…
Die neue Lagerfläche wird für Leerkartons, Herbstbehälter, Kapseln usw. verwendet.
Doch zuvor mußten erst die vollen Barriquefässer mit den 2007er Rotweinen auf die Seite geräumt werden.

Air New Zealand 2008 Wine Awards
Like every year, the whole big New Zealand Wine Industry is going absolutely mad about the Medal and Trophy results of the Air New Zealand awards.
Now we have been told, that many customers like these nice stickers on the bottles, showing that this wine had won a special prize.
So this year we spent over 500 NZD$ in entry fees to take part in this event…

Everything is growing just fine. Survived the frosty nights so far.
The season has sterted well so far and the new shoots are growing nicely. Our team has done a great job of taking off excessive shoots. Now we have to wait until the shoots are long enough to hold them within the wires. If this work is done too early, the strong NZ winds would slap the shoots against the wires and cut off the heads.
And the frost season is not over yet. I remember the 10th of November 2006 when a very bad frost had hit us and ruined a great portion of our crop.
This season so far the wind machines had done a good job and we haven’t had any frost damage yet.
Vive la France et vive la publicité… mais sans vins…
Es spitzt sich schon einiges an Dramatik zu… Während ich gestern vertieft über maschinelle Kellereiprobleme brütete und die Weiterverarbeitung der Jungweine auch noch absolviert werden mußte, gab es in Frankreich ein paar schöne Protestaktionen zum Thema “Loi Evin”.
Iris vom Weingut Lisson hatte hier schon über das anstehende Verbot für Wein- und Winzerblogs in Frankreich berichtet.
Gestern war also ein großer Aktionstag.

Pinking Pinot Gris Juice – Saft vom Grauen Burgunder mit rosa Färbung
Have you ever heard of pinking Pinot Gris before? Well this year we took some ripe sain Pinot Gris and decided to do a little bit of skin maceration before pressing off. Now after cold settling and rcking off the clear juice, it is showing this colour. We will have to wait and see, what will happen to the colour during fermentation.

Baden is No. 1 Pinot Noir Region in Germany !
Reading through the German Vineyard areas statistics 2007… e.g. here at Sigi Hiss or here at germanwineusa (page 6), I was surprised to see how much Pinot Noir = Spätburgunder is actually growing in the individual wine regions.
Baden: 5885 ha
Pfalz: 1585 ha
Rheinhessen: 1351 ha
Württemberg: 1262 ha
Rheingau: 386 ha
Ahr: 339ha
Hessische Bergstrasse: 44ha
Mittelrhein: 39 ha
This totals it all up to 10891 ha of Pinot Noir.
So Baden has 54% of German Pinot Noir Vineyards.
Now looking here we are not far away from the 6269 ha growing in the Cote d’Or Region of Burgundy.
But then, why is Pinot Noir from Baden so little known throughout the world?
Well Germany has almost only been promoting German Riesling for the last decades.
And Baden only has 1173 ha of the 21378 ha Riesling growing in Germany…. That’s only 5,4%.
So I think it’s time to wake up and show the world the different styles of Pinot Noir growing in Baden.
Meanwhile there are many hard working Pinot Noir Producers that cultivate great Spätburgunder on individual Soils and Terroir aspects. In the Markgräfler Land with some Sites like the Isteiner Klotz with pure Kalk (limestone). In the Breisgau with some Muschelkalk (shell limestone) sites. The Kaiserstuhl with its Vulkanverwitterung (volcanic ash) sites, or the big löss terraces… And the Ortenau with its Granitverwitterung (granite alteration).
